2011 Escalera Celebration

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Escalera Celebration in Española at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation Building

We had a full house, celebrating the accomplishments of 11 of our local youth from the communities of Española and Las Vegas area.

The Master of Ceremonies was Luis Padilla, HELP-NM’s NE Regional Manager.  Speakers included Simon Lopez, Senior Director for the National Council of La Raza, Board Member Ron Martinez, Board Treasurer Kenny Lujan, John Martinez, Executive Director, and, special guest speaker U.S. Congressmen Ben Ray Lujan.

Most of our Escalera program youth (*Disconnected Youth) come to us with tremendous issues, problems and personal situations on top of being behind academically.  These eleven youth made tremendous gains/accomplishments in their life with hard work and the guidance of our staff.  We were there to celebrate their success and to motivate them to continue.

All the HELP-NM Escalera program staff did a super job with the youth and the celebration.  I especially want to thank the HELP-NM Escalera designated staff and other agency staff for their efforts. Luis Padilla, HELP-NM’s NE Regional Manager (also functioning as the Escalera statewide Coordinator), Brenda Martinez-Martinez, Nicole Kris, Kim Romero, Ben Sanchez, Eric Goldan, William Christian, HELP-NM’s NW Regional Manager, and the support cast in the Abq Administrative office.
